Description

The next in our popular series of York Futures workshops for members will focus on proposals for a master plan for the York Castle Gateway area.

The Castle Gateway Advisory Group, set up by the City of York Council, has met three times. The Council has appointed consultants, BDP, to produce a master plan for the area. This Master Plan will be considered by the Council Cabinet in November 2017. It is not intended to be a document of statutory authority in the planning system, but rather a set of guidance for developers (and of course, the Council which is itself a significant landowner in the area).

In order to ensure that our voice is heard in this process, and that we have garnered the opinions of our membership and associates, we are joining up with the group appointed by the Advisory Group as the public engagement vehicle for the project. This is called My Castle Gateway and is led by Dr Helen Graham of Leeds University and Phil Bixby, the chair of York Environment Forum. They are running a number of events, but this one is in association with YCT and will include input from members of the Planning Committee in the form of short talks and the leading of walks.

The format will be a three-hour session, as previously. Introductory talks will be followed by a one-hour walk around the site and then a return to the seminar room to compare notes and wrap up. The venue is the Hilton Hotel and the two dates, chosen to ensure that we meet the CYC deadlines for comment, are Thursday 17 August, 2.00- 5.00 or Friday 18 August, 10.00 - 1.00. Full details to follow, reserve your place now - we ask you to only book on one of the workshops, not both.
